Croatia has been designated as the best cruise destination in 2009 by the group specializes Cruises News at the third edition of the Award of Excellence for the Mediterranean. The best cruise destination has been designated by 4250 cruise Europe who participated in a survey by Cruise News.

This recognition coincides with the recent opening of the Port of Gruz in Dubrovnik and the terminal allowing the simultaneous arrival of 3 boats cruise giants.

Croatia is now planning to create more port for the cruises. In fact, many new ports are under construction in Zadar.

Dubrovnik is the city that receives the greatest number of cruises in the Mediterranean Sea with 628 ships that have brought nearly one million tourists in 2009.

Between January and September 2009, Croatia has recorded the arrival of 754 cruise ships carrying 989 272 tourists who stayed an average of 2 days on the Croatian coast.

If Dubrovnik is the city that has seen the most tourists, other ports of Croatia also received cruise lines, which are the ports of Korcula, Zadar, Split, Sibenik and Pula.

Compared to 2008, the number of cruise passengers arriving in Croatia rose by 5.3% despite an 8.3% drop in the number of cruises in 2009.

In this third edition of the Award of Excellence, Croatia has been awarded as the best destination cruises alongside Turkey, which also attracted many tourists using this mode of transport.

The Awards took place February 18, 2010 in Malaga in the presence of heads of major cruise lines operating in Europe, representatives of port authorities in Europe, travel agencies and other tourism stakeholders.
